There are arguments that suggest it creates an unfair advantage for online retailers. ","details":"The Minister for Treasury and Resources has decided not to adjust the de minimis level in Budget 2019.  The Minister will keep that level under review, taking into account any changes in the costs of collecting the GST currently foregone.  It is expected that the de minimis level will be abolished shortly after the European Union implements changes (possibly as soon as 2021) requiring online retailers to account for tax in the jurisdictions to which they deliver taxable goods.   \r\n\r\nThe Minister for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture opposes lowering the de minimis level at this time.  He anticipates that a lower de minimis level would have minimal impact on the prevailing on-Island environment for retail.  The Minister is devising a retail development strategy that aims to support the industry’s own efforts to deliver, amongst other things: a thriving St Helier Experience; focused market information; and, leading edge skills and talent.  He anticipates that this work should have a greater positive impact on retail trading conditions than a change in the de minimis level or GST.\r\n\r\n","created_at":"2018-10-26T10:35:21.230Z","updated_at":"2018-10-26T10:35:21.230Z"},"debate":null,"signatures_by_parish":[{"name":"Trinity","signature_count":42},{"name":"St. Peter","signature_count":60},{"name":"St. John","signature_count":45},{"name":"St. Mary","signature_count":26},{"name":"St. Saviour","signature_count":217},{"name":"St. Brelade","signature_count":171},{"name":"St. Helier","signature_count":389},{"name":"St. Martin","signature_count":34},{"name":"St. Ouen","signature_count":62},{"name":"St. Lawrence","signature_count":81},{"name":"Grouville","signature_count":60},{"name":"St. Clement","signature_count":141}]}}}
