Carteret has links with trading and shipping slaves. \r\n\r\nEvery statue \u0026 monument for anyone who ever owned Africans or fought to be able to own Africans should be taken down.","additional_details":"Sir George Carteret was one of the founders of the Company of Royal Adventurers into Africa whose business was trading and\r\nshipping slaves. Nobody who did this should be honoured. Keeping statues of people like Carteret erected is celebrating their ‘achievements and contributions’ whilst having a total disregard for the atrocities they were involved in. People in power should seek to remove these honours, which should never have been given in the first place.","state":"rejected","signature_count":6,"created_at":"2020-06-08T17:01:27.749Z","updated_at":"2020-06-12T11:38:53.302Z","rejected_at":"2020-06-12T11:38:53.304Z","opened_at":null,"closed_at":null,"moderation_threshold_reached_at":"2020-06-08T17:52:24.549Z","response_threshold_reached_at":null,"ministers_response_at":null,"debate_threshold_reached_at":null,"scheduled_debate_date":null,"debate_outcome_at":null,"creator_name":null,"rejection":{"code":"duplicate","details":"One of the issues we had with all of the versions submitted was that the statue is on private land and petitions have to seek action from the States about something: they could not make the owner take down the statue.
