Closed petition Raise the minimum wage to match the local living wage of £10.20 per hour.
States employees are entitled to the living wage, but what about the rest of us?
Defined as 'a wage that is high enough to maintain a normal standard of living', it has been declared by our local government to be £10.20 per hour.
Given the cost of living, the minimum wage (£7.50) must match.
More details
We appreciate there will be aspects which need to be discussed.
Will it only apply to over-25's like in other countries?
Will it only apply to people living and working in Jersey for a certain period of time?
What impact will it have on which industries?
These are all questions which we welcome in any given debate.
By definition, there is a whole section of our community who cannot afford to live at a normal standard. This needs to change.
