Closed petition Separate taxation of married women.
Women (and the younger of same-sex partners) in Jersey who are married are taxed as if their life is that of their husband; there is an option to do a separate return but no right to information or to separate assessment as a single person or married man.
More details
This is quite simply archaic and makes it very difficult if the marriage fails.
Without consent there is no access to information and deductions can be transferred to a former spouse's tax account after divorce without prior notification or consideration of the circumstances / settlement agreed at the time of divorce. Younger persons in same sex marriages are treated in the same way. Investment in systems to facilitate this change appears to have been deferred in the past and should be given a high priority with clear timescales for change.
