Petition Ban smoking outside of designated smoking areas on Jersey’s most popular beaches
A growing number of jurisdictions around the world are choosing to make their most popular beaches smoke free. The beaches where bans are in place have had designated smoking areas set up. Those who wish to smoke still can, as long as it's in these areas
Cigarette butts are a major source of pollution. As well as being an eyesore discarded cigarette butts are extremely toxic to marine life. The butts can take up to 15 years to break down and contain toxins which leach into the environment. The small size of cigarette ends makes them time consuming and costly to clean on beaches.
Jerseys beaches are a popular destination. Making these beaches smoke free will maintain cleaner and healthier environments for everyone to enjoy.
