Rejected petition Allow back office staff to wear shorts in hot weather

As far as I'm aware there is no legal requirement to allow men to wear shorts in an office environment in hot weather - Women are allowed to wear skirts/dresses etc in hot weather in any office environment however men are expected to wear trousers. This is extremely sexist

More details

I have had many discussions with senior management about changing the policies surrounding the dress code in a back office environment. I can understand not allowed customer facing men to wear shorts as they can be deemed as relatively unprofessional. However in a back office environment there should be no problems. As stated previously women are allowed to wear skirts/dresses/jumpsuits during hot weather however men are made to suffer.

Why was this petition rejected?

It’s not clear what the petition is asking Ministers or States Assembly to do.

There is no legal bar on the wearing of shorts at work (although there will be health&safety reasons not to permit this in some areas). This e-petition could have been about the policy applying to States employees but this isn't clear. We asked the petition creator to clarify what was intended but did not get a response.

We only reject petitions that don’t meet the petition standards.
