Closed petition Introduce Legislation to require local supermarkets to donate food to charities.

Food is wasted before it reaches its best before date when the product has not spoiled but surpassed its peak quality.
It is also unsustainable if we are to meet the global challenge of feeding a growing population from an increasingly scarce agricultural resource base.
The US and other countries have a "Good Samaritan Food Donation Act" (or equivalent), which also protects food donors and recipient organisations from civil and criminal liability when food has been donated in good faith.
