Closed petition Adopt a strategy of COVID-19 elimination in Jersey with border controls/testing.
Due to the timely Island lockdown we have successfully ‘flattened the curve’ giving us a window of opportunity to eliminate COVID-19. This would enable the local economy to resume, protect the most vulnerable and improve the mental health of Islanders whilst avoiding hundreds of unnecessary deaths.
More details
New Zealand and Guernsey have embarked upon this strategy. We are geographically similar and have invested in measures for contact-tracing with potential for digitally-based solutions on the horizon. Border controls and testing would be necessary to maintain elimination and could enable free movement within the Channel Islands if we succeed. Tourism will remain limited due to COVID-19 activity elsewhere but Islanders are more likely to be welcomed abroad if we have eliminated COVID-19.
