Rejected petition Demand Chris Taylor, not the public, be responsible for his own legal fees

It has recently emerged that public funds amounting to £7,000 will be used to cover Chris Taylor’s legal fees in relation to a dangerous driving offense.

This is an unacceptable use of public money, especially in light of covid 19 and the economy.

More details

The spending is justified due to Chris Taylor acting as Connestable at the time of the offense. However there is no reason for a Connestable to break the law or drive dangerously. It is unacceptable to set a precedent that States Members are above the law, whilst discussing harsher sentencing for other islanders when it comes to driving offenses.

We therefore demand that Chris Taylor be made to act in the responsible manner and fund his own legal fees for the crime he has been accused of.
