Closed petition Increase the period of residency for housing qualifications from 10 to 20 years
Until the Jersey Government puts in place a policy to reduce the huge annual influx of immigrants, the residence period to become entitled to purchase property should revert to 20 years. It is unsustainable for our population to continue increasing at the current rate.

It is in no Jersey resident’s long-term interest to to allow the Island’s population to continue increasing. Our small island has limited resources and an ideal population would be approx 85,000 rather than the current population of more than 106,000. Apart from causing extortionately high house prices and rents, the cost of providing healthcare, education and other services to accommodate the influx cannot be met.
