The requirement of a landline is not necessary for a fibre internet connection to work. Consumers should be given a choice if they wish to pay for a landline or not. They should not be forced into paying for something they do not use. Mobile phones are now used instead of a landline.

This is now available in the UK by one of its biggest providers, BT.

It is understood that the Economic Development Minister has relevant powers to stop landlines and broadband being packaged together, but if not the States should agree legislation on this.
