Rejected petition Urge the Portuguese Consulate to renew expired passports for Jersey residents
The Portuguese Consulate in Jersey is refusing
to process passport and ID card renewals for Portuguese citizens living in Jersey, leaving some without documents for 12 months. The Government of Jersey needs to step in to ask the Consulate to uphold its international obligations for Jersey residents

Portuguese nationals are effectively trapped on
the Island if their existing documents have
expired. This is a failing by the
Consulate, as representatives of the
Portuguese government, to meet their
obligations under Article 2:2 of Protocol 4 of
the European Convention on Human Rights,
which states "everyone shall be free to leave any
country.."
Renewals have not been processed since February and renewal applications are being refused indefinitely, trapping applicants in Jersey for over a year
