Rejected petition Do not change the Jersey electoral system without a referendum.
We should not let the States Assembly change the value and effect of our votes without our consent.
More details
The States of Jersey Assembly is trying to change the electoral system in an extremely fundamental way.
There is no doubt that the system can be improved, but such large changes like constituency boundaries, type of States members, and number of members should not happen without consultation and certainly without confirmation that electors agree with the changes.
This petition does not support one system over another, it is just about asking us, the public, what we think when changes are made that affect the way we can vote or who we can vote for.
The question is extremely straightforward: can we accept to have the value and purpose of our votes changed without our consent? If not, please signal it by signing this petition.
