Rejected petition Let fathers attend maternity appointments e.g ultrasounds and anti-natal clinics
Attending ultrasounds and anti-natal appointments is an important part of parenthood for both mothers and fathers.
Depriving fathers of this important part of parenthood can cause fathers to feel that they are not as equally involved in the child's life as the mother.
More details
As at 6/2/21, there were 64 active cases of COVID in Jersey. This is a decrease in the number of positive cases at the time the government restricted fathers from attending appointments.
As at 3/2/21 all non-essential shops on the island opened. Therefore, the risk of catching COVID is low.
We urge the government to review the above evidence amongst other available evidence, and conclude whether this restriction should still be in place, even if fathers are 2 metres apart and wearing face masks
