Closed petition Make reverse lights on trailers mandatory

Reversing tractors with trailers represent a danger for smaller vehicles travelling behind them, especially if the tractor driver start to reverse with no obvious warning and the car driver caught behind is not able to see the tractor’s reverse lights as they are obscured by the trailer.

I have experienced being in a car accident caused by a fast-reversing tractor trailer and I would not wish the experience on anyone else. Whilst no substitute for safe vehicle distancing as per the Highway Code, mandatory reverse lights on all vehicles - including additional extensions to vehicles - would help prevent accidents of this kind happening again.
