This petition is for the States Assembly to consider the introduction of a new class of vehicle in Jersey known as NEVs (Neighbourhood Electric Vehicles) which are electric vehicles that are usually built to have a top speed of 25 miles per hour, and have a maximum weight of 1,400 kg.

As with other road-worthy vehicles, NEVs would need to be registered; the driver would need a license, the vehicle must be insured in addition to the driver being expected to obey all traffic laws.
NEVS would be required to have seat belts, running lights, headlights, brake lights, reflectors, rear-view mirrors and indicators. NEVs however do not produce exhaust emissions like their conventional counterparts.
