Under the existing Domestic Abuse (Jersey) Law 2022, historical abuse cannot be investigated as offences can only be prosecuted if they happened after the Law came into effect in June 2023.

Due to this, any abusers whose victims have come forward to report incidents which occurred prior to June 2023 have not been held accountable and potentially been allowed to abuse and traumatise further victims. The Domestic Abuse Law needs to recognise historic offences to protect our community.
