Petition Request a review of Jersey rape data by an independent expert
Recent Jersey Police statistics indicate rates of false allegations, at 1.4%, are significantly lower than the UK Home Office estimate of 3%;
More details
and than an assessment by Linda Fairstein, a former Manhattan district attorney, who estimated false rape accusations in cases she observed ranged from 40-50%;and an FBI review of 2012 which estimated the percentage of false rape allegations at 60%.
It’s important to understand if different analytical techniques are leading to results which cannot be meaningfully compared and/or if local measurement techniques are producing results which underestimate the deeply worrying problem of false rape allegations in Jersey.
The Minister for Justice and Home Affairs should bring in an independent expert to analyse rape cases between 2018-2024 and provide an assessment of the percentage of false allegations of rape that may have occurred in Jersey.
