Petition Restrict the use of fireworks to around Bonfire Night
Fireworks cause distress to animals, people with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, and vulnerable residents when used unpredictably throughout the year.
More details
Guernsey and the UK have limited firework use to specific dates to reduce disruption while still allowing celebrations. Jersey currently has no such restrictions.
In Guernsey, firework use is already restricted to specific dates such as Bonfire Night and New Year's Eve unless a permit is obtained (Control of Explosives Ordinance 2014). Similarly, the UK restricts firework use to between 7am–11pm (with exceptions on key dates) and limits sales to defined periods around public holidays. These models demonstrate how Jersey could implement clearer, safer seasonal controls while still allowing public celebration.
