Petition Allow Uber and similar on-demand transportation and delivery services in Jersey
In Jersey, buses are often infrequent, or only go via town so often require 2 buses for those in rural areas, and taxis are expensive. People have turned to “Jersey lifts” but may face fines in the future. Services like Uber and similar services could provide taxable, reliable transport instead.
More details
Cracking down and fining “Jersey lifts” ignores the real issue: demand for flexible transport. A regulated system would make journeys safer with GPS tracking, driver checks, and ratings, while ensuring income is declared and taxed and so boosting the economy. In many countries, taxis work alongside Uber within the same app, increasing availability. With buses often infrequent, this would improve mobility, boost tourism, and support restaurants through food delivery (Uber eats, deliveroo etc).
