Petition Provide supported access to dental care for individuals with complex needs

If basic dental care cannot be provided, dental problems will potentially worsen and might lead to distress, severe pain and ultimately extraction. Requests for sedation should be carefully considered in these types of cases.

We therefore ask for:

• Guaranteed access to essential dental assessments and treatment for children and adults with learning difficulties, neurodiversity or additional needs

• Availability of general anaesthesia or sedation when clinically appropriate and when other measures have failed

• A clear and inclusive care pathway that prevents avoidable suffering
