Petition Establish a Committee of Inquiry into the 2004 PFAS Deed of Settlement
It should examine whether the Deed of Settlement, or its interpretation, should be referred for judicial review on the grounds that it may have exceeded the authority granted by the States Assembly, improperly constrained future democratic decision-making, or conflicted with the public interest.
More details
The Committee of Inquiry should also be enabled to consider any related agreements, provisions, or subsequent interpretations connected to the Deed of Settlement.
In addition to the above, the inquiry should examine –
• what the Deed of Settlement says,
• why it was debated in camera,
• whether it has restricted transparency or democratic scrutiny,
• whether it has been interpreted beyond its original purpose, and
• whether evolving international PFAS law now requires the Deed of Settlement to be independently re-examined
This petition does not presume illegality or misconduct. It calls for transparency, independent scrutiny, and restoration of public confidence.
