Petition Repeal the Residential Tenancy (Jersey) Amendment Law 2025
We call for a repeal of the Residential Tenancy (Jersey) Amendment Law. The law was intended to strengthen tenant protections and improve affordability; however it will potentially reduce rental supply, increasing competition, making it harder to access rentals in an already limited Jersey market.
More details
Jersey has a shortage of rental homes. This law risks reducing supply by increasing regulation and reducing flexibility in the market which could lead to fewer available properties and greater difficulty for people trying to rent. It also represents an increase in state control over privately owned property, threatening to undermine the principle that it should remain primarily under the control of its owner. Tenant protection is important, but state intervention should be limited to cases of unfair treatment. The law should therefore be repealed.
