Petition Increase tax exemption threshold so minimum wage earners pay no income tax
When the minimum wage was introduced in 2005 a single person working a 40-hour week would earn less than the tax exemption threshold and so pay no income tax. Now, a person on minimum wage earns £28,267 and incurs a £1,824 tax bill. Minimum wage earners can ill afford this tax burden.

By increasing the tax exemption threshold so no tax is liable and essentially reinstating the original situation when the minimum wage was introduced, the States Assembly would ensure that minimum wage earners have more money in their pockets and relieve some of the cost-of-living pressures they are experiencing.
